Creative And Healthy Tips To Satisfy Your Hunger

by Alexandra McAllister on June 12, 2012

Healthy Snacks You Can Prepare, Enjoy And Satisfy Your Cravings!

Now, I am not talking about chips, cookies, candies or pretzels! I'm saying take a few minutes to prepare healthy snacks that you can take to the office, carry in your purse or store in small containers so when those cravings hit, you are ready!

You'll save money and your body will be happy. It will quench your hunger without ruining your appetite for your next meal.

Here are some healthy snacks to get your started…eat the ones you enjoy and then try some new ones! Remember to share with a friend. :)

    FRUIT:

  •     Apples
  •     Pears
  •     Melon
  •     Grapefruit
  •     Orange
  •     Papaya
  •     Mango
  •     Blackberries
  •     Bananas

Research has found you’re more likely to pick a healthy snack if it’s convenient and within reach.

   NUTS:

  •     Pistachios
  •     Almonds
  •     Cashews
  •     Trail mix
  •     Nut butters
  •     Pumpkin or sunflower seeds

Snacks can be the same as small meals, with foods from the four food groups. They should include complex carbohydrates (grains, cereals, fruits or vegetables), some lean protein (low fat cheese, yogurt, lean meat, chicken, beans) and a small amount of fat.

Here are some suggestions:

• cottage cheese with fresh fruit

• pita crisps with a bean dip

• baby carrots with hummus

• whole grain cereal with milk and fresh fruit

And something that I absolutely love, especially in the summer! SMOOTHIES! Check out these!

Blackberry Smoothie Recipes

Start by pouring the liquid ingredients for each smoothie recipe into your blender. Use fresh fruit or frozen.

Add any of the optional ingredients recommended above, if you like — then blend until smooth.

Add more liquid to reduce the thickness, ice to chill it, or more fruit to thicken your blackberry smoothie.  Substitute ingredients at your whim — it's fun to experiment!

Mango Banana Blackberry Smoothie
2/3 cup mango
2/3 cup frozen blackberries
1 ripe banana
1-1/3 cup water
5 ice cubes

Blackberry Strawberry Banana Smoothie
1 fresh or frozen banana
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup strawberries
1 cup almond milk

Also…Don't let yourself get thirsty! Often it's thirst that makes you think you're hungry, causing you to snack. Drink plenty of H20! It's good for you!

I have a lot more to share with you. I share simple solutions to achieving a healthy weight loss goal, maintaining it, how to have an abundance of energy and a whole lot more!

Looking forward to hearing from you and connecting! Hang on to your hat! We're going to have a blast!

Yes, Mandy, it’s all about moderation. Too much of anything is not good! LOL! I prepare ‘little’ snack bags, especially with nuts. As for cold fruit, I love that as well, especially in the hot weather. You look fabulous! Have a wonderful day and thanks for dropping in!

It is so true that if you don't have healthy snacks nearby when hunger strikes you are more likely to eat bad foods.  I think that is one of  my biggest challenges with eating healthy- making sure its accessible!

Reply

Alexandra McAllister June 16, 2012 at 10:17 AM

Yes, Angela. Most people eat unhealthy when they are stressed, bored or just think they are hungry. If the snacks are prepared, then it is much easier to eat something that is good for you. It only take a few minutes.

Thanks Alexandra, it seems like all we do is snack, so these are great resources for me. Your blackberry smoothie recipes are the best. I was hoping to pick some blackberries this weekend, but the farm didn't have many so we went for blueberries instead. They make for a yummy smoothie too!

Another thing that my wife and I do when we make smoothies is throw a handfull of leafy greens and/or some parsley or cilantro to our them. The fruits still dominate the flavor and it makes for an easy way to add greens.
