Do You Impulse Buy? How Do You Feel?

by Alexandra McAllister on October 24, 2011

Have You Had Any Regrets Or Are You Usually Content With Your Purchase(s)?

You Probably Have One That Really Stands Out, Don't You?

I know I do! And for once, it wasn't clothing, shoes or jewelery! Nor was it an extensive day at the spa!  Wondering what it was? I'd love to share it with you.

This is a post, word-for-word, right after one of my impulse buys…photos included!

Title:  Our Latest Addition!

Date: November 30, 2009

"Ohhhh…. I know I said I wouldn't adopt another puppy but I just couldn't help it…and that's my story and I'm sticking to it! LOL!

Honestly, take a look at this face…would you have been able to resist?  I think not!

By the way, her name is "Kaylee."  She's 10 weeks old and weighs 1.5 lbs.

And here is Kaylee trying to sleep….I think at this point…I had given her at least 50 kisses and hugs…and she was pooped!

She is the greatest gift.  I had a wonderful weekend…..I adopted her on Friday….and it's been such a long time since I laughed so much.

She is intelligent…goes on the pee-pee pad 95% of the time and only wakes me up once during the night.  She also barks and growls – that was included in the price!

Have a happy, tail-wagging day!

Alexandra and her "fur-kid," Kaylee " THE END

Now, here are my "fur-kids" 2 years later! Kaylee was the best impulse purchase/adoption ever!  She and my toy poodle, Gracie, are best buddies.  Both are heart beats at my feet!

We go for long walks, sometime for 3 hours! I have a stroller for Gracie as she has a heart condition and can't walk for so long. Still, she enjoys the fresh air.

The 3 of us have also lost weight together! I drink either my coffee or my energy drink beforehand.  Both are healthy and good for me; and both can be purchased at drinkACT! Love getting in shape with my fur-kids!  I hope you have enjoyed my post.

I would love to hear about one of your most unforgettable impulse buying stories.  You know, something that really made a difference in your life!

Please share in comments below. I am so looking forward to reading your posts.

Much love,

You are so funny Solvita! Can’t remember your last impulse buy or maybe you don’t want too! LOL! Yes, I love both my fur-kids. They are a hand full at times and well worth it!

awwhhhh, I want one! They are adorable! Who could resist a face like that? Not me!

And I couldn’t resist either Kim! LOL! I love both my fur-kids. When the time is right, you’ll adopt one as well. They are so sweet and do require a lot of TLC!

Kaylee as an impulse buy is one I can't beat :) They are both so adorable! I ALMOST had a similar impulse buy – on several occasions actually. I wanted Sebrina to have a friend and had her "meet" other little pups years ago. I never did follow-through – not sure if that was a good choice or a bad one! Although I love my pup as much as you love yours, and she loves people, I have to admit she is a bit of a pup snob – she was not in the slightest bit interested in any of the little pups I "introduced" her to LOL

Alexandra McAllister October 26, 2011 at 2:17 PM

Hi Julie, I know what you mean by Sebrina being a pup snob. Gracie, my poodle, was the same. She never wanted to associate with another dog and I fostered one little pup for a while. Gracie would growl at her and when I finally found her a home, peace was restored. BUT this little Kaylee, was an impulse and I was determined that she was going to stay! It took a couple of weeks and now they are always together. You know Sebrina well so do what is best…..for everyone! LOL! Sending lots of (((HUGS)))

So cute! And I"m not even a pet person! I've sure had a lot of impulse buys in the past, but I rarely do it now.

Reply

Alexandra McAllister October 26, 2011 at 2:11 PM

Yes, I think they both are cute as well McKenna! Impulse buying is good but like everything else, in moderation! LOL! Wishing you a fabulous day! Glad you dropped in.

Love your impulse buy!!!  I have only been able to restrain myself from getting a companion for my mini schnauzer because he has some health issues…….my most impulsive buy has been a pair of heels that have not been good for my feet!  I like yours, better!

Reply

Alexandra McAllister October 26, 2011 at 2:09 PM

Sherie, My poodle, Gracie also has health problems but since Kaylee, she seems to have grown younger! LOL! Shoes are great as well but next time, make sure they are good for your feet! I also have (several) that are just gathering dust in the closet because they hurt! Thanks for dropping in! Much love and (((HUGS)))

Wow, what a great impulse buy.  I was ready to hear a different end to that story, something like what a waste.  However Kaylee is the gift that keeps giving so who can top that.  I am not really an impulse shopper, but I will be sure to keep you mind if the situation should present itself.

Alexandra McAllister October 26, 2011 at 4:03 PM

Actually, my poodle, Gracie was also, sort of, an impulse buy after my poodle mix had passed away. I bought her from a breeder without even seeing her. After driving 3 hours in a snow storm to pick her up, I thought she looked so weird. She had a weird haircut, was skinny and looked scared to death! I took her home because I felt so sorry for her. She eventually grew to be a top quality poodle! Kaylee, on the other hand, was so sweet and pretty, I fell in love with her. Both are heart beats at my feet and I love them. Be careful when you go shopping the next time Beau! LOL!

Now that is a valuable impulse buy and one that you can't possibly regret! :-) …I my financial haydays (new ones are coming :-) ), my impulse buys were fashion. Most I loved but a few costly regrets did hang lifeless in my closet. And I was always well reminded…

Reply

Alexandra McAllister October 26, 2011 at 3:58 PM

Hi Carl! Yes, I think she was a great impulse buy….better than some of the others! So you love fashion as well? Me too! Although, like you, I have a number of items still hanging in my closet that I wouldn’t dare wear! Great reminders!

I have never thought of a "fur baby" as an impulse buy, but why not! Keep enjoying!

Reply

Alexandra McAllister October 26, 2011 at 6:11 PM

Me neither but it was on impulse so it does qualify as an impulse buy! LOL!

Too cute!! Now I have 2 fur babies that I adopted from the Humane Society while my hubby was out of town:) Yep..he's afraid to leave town in fear of what he'll find when he returns. If I had my way I would have a houseful of puppies but I know that is not possible…although my fur babies are truly loved by all and are the best watch dogs we could ever ask for. And yes hubby loves them too!:)

Alexandra McAllister October 26, 2011 at 6:10 PM

Oh that is so sweet! I love it when people adopt for shelters and give “furever” homes! I can understand how your husband may feel….although maybe he’d be happy even if you did adopt another one! My room mate loves Kaylee & Gracie! He’s so nice and talks to them, cuddles and they are always in his lap when he comes home. Sending lots of (((HUGS))) from my fur-kids to yours!

My impulse buys used to be clothing for my kids.  I could be planning to shop for myself, but I would always head to the children's section first.  There would always be a cute outfit or something that I thought they needed.  In the end, I didn't get anything for myself.  LOL!  I never regret it though.

Alexandra McAllister October 26, 2011 at 8:27 PM

Oh! That is so sweet! I’m sure your kids were very happy! It’s great to give but you should also pamper yourself once in a while. Try it! Sending much love and (((HUGS))) Thanks for sharing your story.

Oh, gracious, they're adorable!
I've never made such a cute impulse buy as you have.  I'd say my most recent impulse purchase was a hand-tooled leather purse from Mexico.  A lady was holding a rummage sale and had saved it from a trip to Mexico decades ago.  It is now MINE and at a great price, too.

Reply

Alexandra McAllister October 26, 2011 at 8:25 PM

WOW! Michelle! That sounds like a beautiful impulse buy! I’m sure you’ll treasure it for years to come. Mine, on the other hand, has an expiration date and I’m praying it will be a long time from now. Love both my fur-kids. Enjoy your purse! Hope it makes you smile as well!

Helena Ritchie October 26, 2011 at 9:33 PM

What beautiful babies! I wouldn't have been able to resist that face either. :)  I had to be budget conscious for so long that I don't really do impulse buys anymore, but if I did it would probably be books. I've been known to spend the grocery money on a good book more than once.

Reply

Alexandra McAllister October 26, 2011 at 9:51 PM

Oh Helena! Books are a great buy! Praying that things will change for you and you’ll be able to purchase as many books and other things! As for my babies, I really couldn’t afford it either at that time so I cut corners on other things. So glad I did! Much love and blessings to you.

Very cute. I want a dog but can't seem to find the time to take care of it. What's even worse is that I want a Jack Russell Terrier. Talk about some hyper creature. Anyhow, I am off on a tangent and should reel it back in. You have some beautiful companions and I am sure they will bring you nothing but great joy.

Ohh Congrats on you new addition! I got a puppy a couple months ago…but she wasn't an impulse buy. I did leave hr at the store overnight and when I went back to get another fish…Tess, our puppy,  was still there..So I had to take her home :)

Very cute dogs, it is funny because at the mall by my house the Great Dane adoption people have a stand and I must resist the urge to adopt one all the time, lol.

Reply

Alexandra McAllister October 27, 2011 at 10:05 AM

Karla, now a Great Dane is a huge dog and before adopting, make sure you have the space and the time! They are lovely dogs and apparently very loving. You can always start with one and go from there! LOL! Thanks for sharing and making me smile!

I love that you said you adopted her.  My best "fur kids" have come from adoptions.  We have two kids.  Boomer, the Shih Tzu and DB the cat.  Both were impulse buy/adoptions and I couldn't be happier.

Love that you also adopted fur kids Edwina! Cute names as well, Boomer & DB! Wishing you all continued happiness and sending lots of love and woofs!

Hmmm…I usually don't impulse buy any of the typical things ladies do, but I am personal growth junkie, so I tend to be a sucker for the latest book or audio program that promises the solution for whatever my focus is on.
Interestingly, like you we also made an "impulse buy" of our dog. We had a cat for 7 years that got really sick and we had to put him down – I just couldn't bear to watch him suffer anymore and  his death was  inevitable. I was pretty attached to this cat because he was so attached to me – he followed me around everywhere like a dog.
My honey couldn't bear to see me so sad, so the very next day we drove 3 hours to go look at some puppies (he had done a  lot research on this particular breed). We came home with the most adorable Australian Cattle Dog puppy! And like our cat, he has grown very attached to me.

Yes, I thought this story would have a bad ending or at least a lesson on bad behavior. Ha! "Impulse" more often has a negative connotation, right?

Back in my careless days of spending without a budget, there were countless impulse buys to regret. But we've adopted two puppies over the years, too. No regrets … Pets always give back more!

Jennifer Bennett October 27, 2011 at 1:51 PM

Oh yes-it is so easy to impulse buy when you see those cute little doggie faces!  I've have tried multiple times to buy one, but my husband always brings me back to reality…not to mention that we have to BIG dogs already!  Thanks for sharing!

I love your impulse buy, Alexandra! My great impulse buy was when my boys were in their teens and a friend was selling his computer. I bought it on the spot. i bought it especially for my oldest. He is  now an ITT guy for a big Corporation. So happy I did ;)

My impulse buy would be books. I just can't resist them. Seth Godin books are among my first impulse buy books. I love his view of the business world!
Oh yes, I have "The Russell's " too. My 2 Jack Russells. I love them, but they are very demanding!!!

Reply

Alexandra McAllister October 28, 2011 at 8:41 PM

Books are great impulse buys! Glad you enjoy them Michele! I’ve purchased a few myself just before Christmas last year. I can imagine the “Russell’s” are demanding! They are terriers and full of beans! Enjoy!

I have an impulse pup, too!  And her name is Gracie :-)   She is 2 now, 9 lbs of energy and joy, and from the first time I held her and she nuzzled in to my neck, she 'had' me <3  Thanks for sharing a part of you life with us, Alexandra! Blessings to you and yours!

Fun post, thanks!  I adopted a dog on impulse once – because my other dog really needed a friend, you know.  10 years later, she's still by my side and I love her dearly!  As for my other impulse purchases — usually at the grocery store, so let's not even go there!

Reply

Alexandra McAllister October 31, 2011 at 10:32 AM

So glad your impulse buy turned out great! A lot of people buy pets on impulse and it doesn’t work out. Thank goodness yours and mine did! As for the grocery store…stay out of the inside isles Jennifer! That’s where all the goodies we shouldn’t eat are hidden! LOL! Have an amazing day! So glad you stopped in!
