Be Ready To Share Your Love With MOM On Mother’s Day

by Alexandra McAllister on April 16, 2012

You Still Have Plenty Of Time To Plan Something Special!

There are so many wonderful things to do on this very special day to show your Mom just how much you care.

  • You can plan a brunch at her favorite restaurant with family and close friends.
  •  Decorate a tray and serve your Mom breakfast in bed.  Take out the best china and silverware, add rose petals on tray.  Whip up a delicious breakfast that you know she’d enjoy.  Add a small picture frame with a family photo.
  •  If there are young children, have them make and decorate a special Mother’s Day card.
  • Create a memory box.  Fill it with with quality slips of paper detailing very special events you shared with your Mother.  Let her read each one out loud.
  • Make a donation to your Mother’s favorite charity in her name.
  • Have her lavishly treated at a day in a spa. While she is there, have the house cleaned from top to bottom.

When she comes home, have the house filled with beautiful fresh cut flowers, serve a wonderful dinner with a bottle of  the best champagne.

And of course, delicious chocolates for dessert.

In your own unique way, let her know how much you care and appreciate all she has done for you.  The more personal, the more it will be appreciated.  Mind you, Mothers will be happy no matter what…the most important is to have YOU there.

I know not everyone still has their Mom. My foster Mom passed away 8 years ago and I miss her so much.  On Mother’s Day, I celebrate the women who are close to my heart. I love to share my love.  I pray that you have someone special on this day as well.

So, start thinking about what you could do to make this day so special. Time goes by so quickly, take advantage of the time you have with your Mom.  Every moment is precious.

I’d love for you to leave a comment in the Comment Box below with your favorite suggestions for Mother’s Day…perhaps one of your most memorable one.

In memory of my foster Mom, Lise Halvorsen.

Take an angel from the sky
And send her down this way.
Then send some little boys and girls
To keep her company.
Then fill her heart
With Mother love,
Give her a smile of cheer.
And you’ll have a kind of Mother
Just like my Mother, dear. Much love, Alexandra

Yes! Flowers are wonderful! I also used to make something special for my Mom…as in the article….the “memory box” was a great gift idea!

You are most welcome, Patricia. People are so busy and sometimes time flies by and they “forgot” about Mother’s Day until it’s right there! LOL! Then it’s the last minute gift. Just wrote this as a reminder…’cause Moms are so special.

I love the idea of a memory box! I think I will do this and also include a memory book with photos. I take lots of pictures at family gatherings and I think I can put together something really special for Mother's Day. It also happens to be my Mom's birthday today. I'm taking her to a movie tonight :)

Oh, Sara! I am so happy that you will do this! I know my Mom loved it! You are blessed to have your Mom. Enjoy your movie tonight. HUGS!

That’s lovely, Elizabeth! Being a Mom and still having one is truly a blessing.

Honestly, I don't care much for cut flowers.  I would prefer something I can plant and watch grow.  Anything that will help hold memories is always nice.  I also love things children (even our grown children) create on their own.

Sharon, cut flowers were just one of the ideas. There are plenty more! Creating something is a wonderful gift that any Mom would enjoy receiving!

Alexandra, this is such a beautiful post about Moms. I am so blessed to still have my Mom with me and I tell her how much I love and appreciate her, regularly. I love giving her live flowers for her garden for Mother's Day, that way she has a reminder all summer long! Loved this post and I could really feel the love for your foster Mom.

Sherie, yes, you are blessed to still have your Mom. I do miss my foster Mom so very much. I was blessed to have her in my life for over 30 years! I see you love giving flowers to your Mom. That brings back so many beautiful memories. Thank you so much for sharing.

Wow Alexandra, Mother's Day is only three weeks away! I typically don't like the hype of the day, but what you point out is a new perspective. Thanks for sharing!

Alexandra McAllister April 18, 2012 at 5:45 PM

Thank you, Gretchen. If one has enough time, it’s so much more fun to offer something really personal. Flowers and chocolates are great, believe me…I know from personal experience that the most appreciated “gifts” were the ones that “made.” That’s why I posted this early enough…time to do something different and special.

I didn't realize how soon Mother's Day is!  I will always remember my first mother's day.  It was 2005 and we had buried my beloved grandfather the day before.  Even though my grandpa has just passed,  I got to spend my first mother's day with 2 amazing women – my mother and her mother, my grandma.  Those are my 2 mommy role models and I'm thankful that I got to spend that day with them.  Since then, I've always made it a point that Mother's Day is a day for me and girls – we spend it as a family (the hubby is there too).

Mandy, yes it is just around the corner! Thanks for sharing such a wonderful memory of your first Mother’s Day with your Mother and Grandmother. Wishing you and your girls, and hubby, a blessed Mother’s Day.

I choose to honor my mother every day I wake. When my budget allows extras and something makes me think of mom I buy it. Unsolicited, unadvertised gifts from the heart are the ones that are special to give and receive.

Carla, yes! I agree! I used to surprise my foster Mom with all sorts of things and she loved it! It is the unexpected gifts from the heart that are so appreciated…on Mother’s Day or every day! Thank you so much for sharing.

These are all great ideas Alexandra.  I am blessed to still have my mom in my life… I like what you said about celebrating those women who are close to your heart.   One of the things I love doing is creating my own personal card that I send to my mom filled with memories in pictures, special sayings and all the things that keep us connected.  Sending notes seems to be a lost art, but words from the heart are always a special gift.  I'm working on creating special cards right now

Best Mother's Day gifts I ever received were the handmade cards and little books my children made for me through the years. I have saved them all and I actually use them – one little card my daughter made for me still holds my Buddhist Vows that I look at daily. I have little notes that my children used to write to me and I carry them in my wallet. Their words and pictures are always from the heart and when I look at them now,  I can still see their hearts.

I know for Mother's Day most times I decide on my own gift that I can really select anytime of the year.  I usually get flowers but maybe this year I may plan a date with myself to the Apple store for a purchase.  I always receive gorgeous live flowers.  I just color!  Great post Alexandra.

Reply

Alexandra McAllister April 20, 2012 at 2:28 PM

Carol, that’s ok! Why not? This way you’ll get exactly what you want and we know that if your fur-kid, Molly, could go shopping, she would. Just her being with you, is a wonderful gift! I love flowers as well but if I want any, I’ll have to buy them myself! LOL! YES, I ll go to the market and buy a dozen or two of fusia tulips!

Those are wonderful ideas, Alexandra!  There were several years that Mother's Day was a stressful event for my entire family.  My mother wanted my sister and I at her house and understandably wanted to be waited on hand and foot.  My sister and I felt that we never really got to enjoy our Mother's Day.  It just became a mess and inevitable, someone would have hurt feelings that day.  So a few years ago, we started a new tradition…we spend the earlier part of the day…a big breakfast cooked by the men and (weather permitting) a "planting" party!  Then in the afternoon, my sister and I get to do something that we want.  Everyone is happier and we really enjoy the day!

Oh, Theresa, thank you so much for sharing your story! I am glad that you found a way a way to celebrate Mother’s Day where everyone was happy! It’s a win-win. Wishing you a Happy Mother’s Day. Sending much love and blessings.
